Augustin Castellon Campos Sabicas
(born 1912 Pamplona, Navarra - died 1990 NewYork) was one of the great geniuses of the flamenco guitar. This self-taught artist made his debut in Madrid at the age of ten, in the El Dorado theatre, supporting the famous singer "Chelito". In 1936, at the start of the Spanish Civil War, Sabicas fled to the Americas. He met Carmen Amaya in Buenos Aires and performed with her until 1950. In 1955 Sabicas moved to New York, where he developed his talents as a concert guitarist, his principal activity for the rest of his life.
